A Tail-Wagging Good Time at the Lancaster Community Library!

What a joyful day we had on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the LancasLter Community Library! Local author Ann DeMuth delighted children with a reading of her charming picture book, Runaway Rescue Dogs: Ollie, Enzo, and the Shelter Skedaddle. The kids were completely captivated by the adventurous stories—especially knowing that many of the dogs in the book were inspired by real pups from our very own Northumberland County Animal Shelter!
Adding to the excitement, shelter volunteers brought several of our adoptable dogs to the event. The children had the opportunity to meet, pet, and play with these furry friends, creating meaningful connections and lots of wagging tails.
To help even more, the kids created sweet and colorful drawings of the dogs, which we’ll be using to help promote them for adoption. Their artwork truly captured the hearts and personalities of each pup.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ann DeMuth for sharing her time and talent, and to the Lancaster Community Library for hosting such a wonderful event. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved, and we’re so grateful for moments like these that bring awareness, compassion, and community support to our shelter.

THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR THE WARM WELCOME
AT WARSAW ELEMENTARY!
On Friday, March 28, 2025, our facility had the privilege of visiting Warsaw Elementary School to speak with the 4th graders, and it was a truly memorable experience. The event was incredibly well-organized, and the teachers were gracious and accommodating, making everything run smoothly.
We were joined by Tiny, one of our shelter dogs who is still available for adoption. Tiny wowed both the kids and adults with his impeccable manners and a few tricks he’s learned during his year at our facility. The favorite by far was the “Bang, you’re dead!” trick, where he dramatically falls to the ground after being “shot” with an imaginary gun!
The students were attentive, respectful, and so engaged throughout our discussion, which made the entire event even more enjoyable. We had a fantastic time, and we’re truly grateful for the opportunity to visit. Thank you so much for having us, and we look forward to returning next year!

Northumberland Elementary School Beta Club
Donates to Northumberland County Animal Shelter

Northumberland County Animal Shelter would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to the 5th grade Northumberland Elementary School Beta Club and their instructor Mrs. Chelsea Duncan for their wonderful and numerous donations to our facility. They went above and beyond to collect much needed articles for the beloved pets in our care. Food, towels, bleach, handmade tug toys and blankets are just some of the many things donated to us from Beta Club. We cannot do what we do without support from our community and the NES Beta Club is a great example of community support! Your hard work and commitment is very much appreciated by all the animals, staff and volunteers at the shelter. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.
Community Awareness is a big deal and an important step to help prevent homeless pets. When invited, the FNCAS and its volunteers attend as many community events as possible. Some events include: school visits to talk to the children about the dos and don’ts about pets; the annual National Night Out; and local farmers markets held in warmer months.
If you'd like us to visit your organization or participate in an event, send us an email with the details. We'll try our best to participate. |
